An eight-month-old baby girl Khushboo (name changed), had returned to the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad for the second time in four months. She had previously undergone surgery for diaphragmatic hernia, a congenital disorder in which a child is born with a hole in the diaphragm that separates the chest from the belly.

But, in mid-March, she was admitted again to the hospital due to severe breathing difficulties. The cause, according to Dr. Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, was pneumothorax or a punctured lung.

He stated that her RT-PCR test resulted in a positive result, making her one of the youngest Covid-19 patients admitted in the previous year. She was committed on March 18 and released two weeks later, on April 2. She returned home with normal breathing and heartbeat.

She had acquired abnormal heartbeats due to her disease, causing her doctors to install an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Officials stated that she was also suffering from a fever and malnourishment.

Dr. Joshi also indicated that she had a tiny lesion in her right lung at the time of discharge, but she is stable and will not require additional intervention for the time being.

He further stated that few children were hospitalized due to Covid-19 following the third wave in January 2022. The majority of patients was above the age of 50 and had underlying medical issues. While some people require oxygen, there are fewer cases when the condition has become serious.
